  • Spain is generally a laid-back and welcoming country, but it's always good to be mindful of local customs.

While beachwear is common near the coast, it's best to dress modestly when visiting local towns or dining out, especially in the Puerto Banus harbour.

  • Spanish is the official language in Marbella.

However, due to its popularity with tourists, English is widely spoken, especially in hotels, restaurants, and tourist areas.

It’s always appreciated if you learn a few basic phrases in Spanish, such as:

    "hola" (hello)

    "adios" (goodbye)

    "por favor" (please)

    "gracias" (thank you)

  • Most major mobile networks have good coverage in Marbella, and 4G data is widely available.

If you're coming from outside the EU, consider checking with your mobile provider about international roaming packages.

Free Wi-Fi is available at our villa.

  • Marbella is generally a safe destination with a low crime rate, especially in tourist areas.

Basic precautions like keeping an eye on your belongings and being aware of your surroundings are always advisable.

Ensure all doors and windows are locked when leaving the villa.

In terms of health, tap water is safe to drink, and pharmacies are well-stocked.

Ensure you have adequate travel insurance that covers any fitness-related activities.

Emergency services are reliable, with the national emergency number being 112 for police, fire, and medical assistance.

Airport Tips

  • When you land at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP), you’ll find it’s a modern and well-organized airport that serves as the main gateway to the Costa del Sol.

After disembarking, follow the signs to passport control (if arriving from outside the Schengen Zone), then proceed to baggage claim.

Once you’ve collected your luggage, you’ll pass through customs and into the arrivals hall. Here, you’ll find currency exchange offices, ATMs, and a variety of shops and cafes if you need to take a break before continuing your journey.

  • Taxi/Uber: Taxis/Ubers are readily available outside the arrivals hall. The journey to Puerto Banús takes approximately 45 minutes, depending on traffic. The fare usually ranges from €60 to €80. It’s advisable to confirm the fare with the driver before starting your trip, and be aware that there might be extra charges for luggage or late-night travel.

Bus: For a budget-friendly option, you can take the express bus from Málaga Airport to Marbella Bus Station. The journey takes about 45 minutes and costs around €10. From Marbella Bus Station, you can take a short taxi ride to Puerto Banús, which typically costs around €10 to €15.

Currency: Euros (€)

Currency Exchange

You can exchange money at Málaga Airport, in Puerto Banús, or at local banks. For better rates, consider using ATMs to withdraw euros directly.

ATMs and Credit Cards

ATMs are widely available, and most accept international cards. Credit and debit cards are commonly accepted in hotels, restaurants, and shops, with Visa and Mastercard being the most widely used. (We advise to bring a card like Monzo & keep some cash on hand for smaller establishments.)

Tipping

Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. In restaurants, round up the bill or leave 5-10%. For taxis and hotel staff, rounding up or a small tip is customary.
